Guardiola: 'Every match will be played in 100 minutes from now on'
"I didn't see in the second half that there were so many stops that had to be made up for eight minutes," Guardiola said in his post-match press conference. "The international football council does not consult with the coach or the player, but they make their own decisions and we have to follow them. Previously the match was played for 90 minutes, but from now on the players will definitely must kick 100 minutes".
Man City led Arsenal thanks to 21-year-old midfielder Cole Palmer's masterpiece in the 77th minute. When the referee announced eight minutes of extra time for the second half, Guardiola loudly said something in his direction. Then, a head-on collision between Kyle Walker and Thomas Partey resulted in both bleeding, prompting referee Stuart Attwell to add extra time. In the 11th minute of the match, striker Leandro Trossard hit the foot of midfielder Manuel Akanji and changed his direction into the net, equalizing for Arsenal. In the penalty shootout, "Gunners" won 4-1 and won the Cup.
Guardiola says the new method of extra time is "not annoying", and he and his players will have to adapt. "But suppose for every goal, the referee adds 45 seconds. So if a game has seven goals, maybe we have to play until 9am tomorrow," he added, then smiled mysteriously.
The 52-year-old coach is clearly disappointed when City are "just minutes away from the cup", but he still congratulates Arsenal and thinks that sometimes you have to praise opponents. "We don't always win every title," he added. "We have lost three Super Cups in a row, but why should Man City play these games? Because we won the Premier League three seasons in a row."

Man City have lost three consecutive English Super Cup matches, against Leicester, Liverpool and Arsenal respectively. But they've won the Premier League in the last three seasons, and Guardiola seems to be hinting that what's important is the title at the end of the season. He wants Man City to quickly revive their spirits to start the new season against Burnley on the evening of August 11, in the earliest match in the first round of the English Premier League 2023-2024.
