Phu Tho's goal in the 88th minute helped Giam draw with Singapore 1-1, thereby getting the first score at the 2023 Asian U23 tournament.

At Viet Tri Stadium this afternoon, Singapore controlled the game, creating many attacks, but it wasn't until the 62nd minute that there was a clear chance. Striker Zikos Vasileios was fouled by goalkeeper John-Michael Guidroz in the penalty area, giving Singapore a penalty. On the 11m mark, Farhan Zulkifli accurately scored to open the score.

Singapore actively played slowly to preserve the score, but in the last five minutes Guam suddenly created scoring opportunities. In the 88th minute, from a throw-in from the left wing, Quincy Walker headed a cross into the penalty area, helping Riki Meyar fly to head in the equalizer. 1-1 is also the final score.

This is Guam's first goal and score in its first U23 Asian qualifier. The players and coaching staff celebrated wildly with the results achieved.

Coach Dominic Gadia assessed that the draw held a lot of meaning and was the result of hard work. At the pre-match meeting, the 35-year-old coach told the players to have faith in winning and scoring goals.

"We didn't come here to hang out," he said at the press conference after the match at Viet Tri Stadium. "The whole team needs to continue working and learning more to become winners."

After two matches, Guam has the same point as Singapore but is ranked last in Group C due to poor goal difference (-6 compared to -3). This result also opens up an opportunity for Vietnam or Yemen to qualify for the qualifying round one round early. If they win the late match, coach Philippe Troussier and his team will face Yemen - the team with three points but behind due to poor difference.
