Greenwood can't wait to play for Getafe

Spain striker Mason Greenwood is eager to rebuild his career at Getafe after having to leave Man Utd due to public pressure from allegations of sexual assault.

"Hello Getafe fans, Mason here. I'm very happy to be here and can't wait to start playing," the striker born in 2001 said and gave a thumbs up in a video posted by Getafe on the club's Twitter.

Greenwood left Man Utd, which nurtured his talent since the age of six, to join Getafe on loan last month. Previously, the 21-year-old striker was accused of sexually assaulting and assaulting his girlfriend, causing him to stop playing from January 2022 until now. Although police and Man Utd declared Greenwood innocent, the striker had to leave Old Trafford under pressure from public opinion.

Greenwood was considered one of the bright young talents of English football before being caught up in scandal. Man Utd considered bringing him back to the squad but failed. The "Red Devils" still support Greenwood by paying part of his salary to let him play for Getafe on loan. The English striker hopes to regain the feeling of playing football in La Liga and will be introduced with other rookies on September 5.

Earlier, Greenwood posted on social media a photo holding Getafe's shirt with the number 12 and standing next to this club logo. Despite the wave of criticism, Getafe coach Jose Bordalas claimed the club would help Greenwood find his best form and said the new student was very eager to play. But Bordalas also said the topic of discussion about Greenwood was "too delicate to be taken lightly".

According to British media, Man Utd paid at least $ 63,000 of Greenwood's total salary of $ 95,000 per week to bring him to Spain. Getafe has a clause that allows them to terminate the loan contract early, in January.

Greenwood denies any charges against him. Due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence emerging, the prosecutor's office dropped the investigation of the Man Utd striker. But that was not enough for him to escape the wave of criticism, which became stronger after the 2023 Women's World Cup.
