Golfer under the lead in the Evian Championship

France was not noticed, but Paula Reto surprised when she led the cup team with a score of -7 and dropped two strokes from T2 after the first round of the major on Evian par71.

Evian Championship 2023 kicks off on July 27. Reto started from the 10th hole with a par and then scored a bogey. However, after that glitch, she took eight birdies to monopolize the top of the table, at -7 when the tournament ended round 1. Right behind Reto was a four-handed T2 (-5), including former world number one Lydia Ko and local star Celine Boutier. The new defending champion Brooke Henderson is -2 and in T19, right above Ko Jin Young - the reigning champion of women's golf in the world (Rolex Rankings).

In the opening match, Reto averaged 258 yards, hit 10 of the 13 fairways, went to the green according to the standard 13 holes and put 24 shots. She scored the most birdies in the first round thanks to her high performance in closing the hole.

Before the tournament, Reto was ranked below when ranked 81st in the world professional women's golf - Rolex Rankings. This South African golfer has played professionally since 2013, through 181 LPGA Tour tournaments, but only won one cup, at the CP Women's Open in Canada in August 2022. This season alone, Reto has been eliminated eight times after 16 tournaments.

Evian Championship this period has a bonus fund of 6.5 million USD, reaching the 10-year mark of presence and standing at the penultimate position in the annual women's major tournament schedule. Since entering the prestigious group, the tournament has been held at the resort of the same name in Evian-les-Bains, France. This place is located on Lake Geneva, bordering with Switzerland. The championship point record is currently at -21, set by Chun In-Gee in 2016 and has not been defended for a decade by a player.
