Golfer once had a collapsed lung and picked up the cup on the PGA Tour
Moore was found to have an abnormality in his lungs during his time on the second-place Korn Ferry Tour. Thanks to timely treatment, he continued his career, entering the PGA Tour in 2022. Through 45 first place tournaments, the 29-year-old American player has finished in the top 10 five times, but has not yet won the cup. Then Moore succeeded at the recent Valspar Championship, setting a -10 victory.
"If I had given up that day, I wouldn't have had a moment in front of you guys today. Maybe God told me to find out right away," Moore said after winning the championship.
When entering the Valspar Championship, Moore ranked 103rd in the world professional men's golf (OWGR) table. This tournament takes place at Cooperhead par71 in Florida. After three rounds, Moore is in the group of strong candidates when standing at T4 (point -6), right behind Jordan Spieth in T2, and the top of the table at -8, belongs to Adam Schenk .
Compared to form and achievements, Spieth is the most formidable - ranked 14th OWGR, three majors in 13 championships through 245 PGA Tour tournaments. Meanwhile, Schenk is 40 ranks lower than Moore in OWGR, after 164 awards, he could not be crowned despite 10 times reaching the top 10.
Last round, Spieth and Schenk in the last group, two holes away from Moore. At the 16th hole, Moore was -10 with four birdies and no bogey since the 9th hole. And with -10, Moore finished T1 with Schenk while Spieth -9. The other two holes, Moore both hold par. With that result, he finished -10 and then went to the practice area to keep his body warm because of the possibility of having to fight the extra hole.
However, neither Spieth nor Schenk could catch Moore, as both scored 18 holes bogey. It was Schenk's first bogey over 10 holes, Spieth's second in three.
Negligence at the end of the game pulled Spieth to -8, Schenk's -9 and Moore's -10 became the winning milestone. And like that, Spieth finished T3, receiving the same $477,900 bonus as Tommy Fleetwood while Schenk monopolized the runner-up with $882,900.
Thanks to the Valspar Championship, Moore entered the top 50 OWGR this week with tickets to the major Masters from April 6 to 9 and secured the PGA Tour card for two more seasons.
Golf wasn't originally Moore's forte. As a child, he played baseball, by the age of 15 he achieved a relatively high level and even received a scholarship for this subject at the University of Arkansas. "But in the end, I choose golf because I want to control the game, win or lose it is up to me instead of depending on my teammates and the referee," Moore revealed on Golfweek after winning the Valspar Championship.
