Frankfurt was invited to recruit Ronaldo

The documentary about the Frankfurt club on Dazn aired on Wednesday, December 21, shows a scene where the Sporting and Frankfurt leaders sit down to dinner together before the Champions League confrontation on September 7. They joked about Ronaldo, before Sporting representatives asked if Frankfurt also received offers from the 37-year-old striker.

"They touted us about Ronaldo," said Frankfurt CEO Axel Hellman. Mr. Hellman did not specify whether Man Utd or super-agent Jorge Mendes proposed to Frankfurt about Ronaldo.

Frankfurt president Philip Holzer added: "I have the feeling that Ronaldo is offered to every team in the Champions League."

Ronaldo ended up not joining Sporting or Frankfurt, but staying at Man Utd for the 2022-2023 season, missing the Champions League group stage for the first time in 19 years. The Portuguese captain scored just three goals in 16 games this season, before falling out with coach Erik ten Hag. Man Utd and Ronaldo agreed to terminate the contract at the end of November 2022, seven months early. French newspaper Foot Mercato reported that Ronaldo will meet the leader of the Al Nassr club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this week. The team playing in the AFC Champions League has offered Ronaldo a contract of $ 200 million a year. He once denied having signed with Al Nassr on December 6. But not only France, many Portuguese newspapers also believe that Ronaldo is in Riyadh.

If this deal happens, Ronaldo will play football outside of Europe for the first time. Al Nassr is being led by coach Rudi Garcia, leading the Saudi Arabia championship this season.
