Foden sends Man City into FA Cup quarter-finals
Midfielder Phil Foden's impressive display in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth at the weekend was followed by a brace against Bristol City. The England international scored in the 7th and 74th minutes, before Kevin De Bruyne sealed a 3-0 victory, sending Man City into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Coach Pep Guardiola kept Erling Haaland, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan on the bench, when Man City only had to face a first-class opponent. However, the remaining stars are still too strong compared to Bristol City. In a rare start this season, midfielder Kalvin Philips hit the crossbar in the second minute.
Just five minutes later, Foden opened the scoring with a neat finish from Riyad Mahrez's cross. The early goal made it easy for Man City to kick and create many opportunities. But Mahrez's shot was blocked by the opponent on the goal line, and the visitors' long shots were also inaccurate.
Man City kicked slowly in the second half, before accelerating in the last 15 minutes of the game. Julian Alvarez, who missed many opportunities early in the half, provided Foden with a touch that smashed the Bristol City player's foot into the net. In the 81st minute, De Bruyne cut the heart of the goal from outside the penalty area, setting a 3-0 victory.
Man City's fifth consecutive win over Bristol City. Before the opponent was too strong, the home team also broke the circuit of 12 unbeaten matches. Man City along with Blackburn Rovers, Fulham and Brighton are the first four teams to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The remaining four teams can be determined after the series of matches tomorrow morning 2/3, Hanoi time. Among the four pairs that have not yet played, the highlight is the match between Man Utd and West Ham at 2:45.
