Family of three generations running MetaSports Marathon Nha Trang

On the afternoon of August 11, family members of Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, living in Phuoc Long ward, Nha Trang city, gathered to wait for Nguyen Quoc Cuong, 15 years old, to come home from school and then go together to pick up the MetaSports prize pool. Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang on Sunday, August 13. While waiting, everyone talked about the second tournament held in their home coastal city.

Last year, Viet's family attended the tournament with eight people. But this year, there are three more participants, including Mr. Nguyen Trong Tan (85 years old) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (76 years old), who are the father and mother of Mr. Viet, and grandson Nguyen Trong Hoang (8 years old), just enough. qualifying for the Kun Marathon junior run, which takes place the day before the main event Sunday.

"My house is now three generations of runners," Viet said proudly. As a food technology engineer, Mr. Viet had a hard time with illness, but thanks to running, he has improved his health and found joy in life again. He brought his passion for running to his family and encouraged everyone to practice together.

Anh Viet fell in love with running by accident. In 2019, when suffering from sciatica, the 48-year-old runner was recommended by the doctor to practice swimming or walking to improve. One afternoon, he went for a gym walk too far from home and couldn't wait to get back to work. With no other choice, he took his first steps and from that day, began to learn about running.

"I disobeyed the doctor, but maybe, my body is suitable for this sport. After a while of running, my disease disappeared. I do not recommend people to follow me, but just want to share my sentence. My true story," said the 48-year-old runner.

Anh Viet said that he practiced running spontaneously and according to his interests for nearly two years. By 2021, when he learned that the MetaSports Marathon would be held in Nha Trang, he registered for a distance of 42 km at the first time and began to train seriously.

At home, Mr. Viet writes his running milestones on the wall, as well as a workout plan for each week. He also joins the Nha Trang Runners community to learn more. However, due to the impact of Covid-19, MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang 2021 was canceled, leaving him at a loss.

However, Mr. Viet was not discouraged. At 3:00 am on September 19, 2021, on the day of the MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang 2021 scheduled to take place, Mr. Viet quietly put on his shoes and started running in the dark. That day, he completed 44 km in 5 hours and 11 minutes. The 48-year-old runner proudly put this milestone on the wall to remind himself.

By 2022, when Covid-19 was pushed back, Mr. Viet participated in the first tournament - MetaSports Marathon Sparkling Quy Nhon at a distance of 21 km. Runner then ran 42km at the MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang 2022, achieving a time of 5 hours 3 minutes. This is the only full marathon he has attended so far. Anh Viet also encourages family members to attend. Besides his main job as the owner of a bird's nest business, he spends time practicing both pentathlons and once went to Quang Ninh to compete in Aquaman Vietnam 2022.

At MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang 2023, Mr. Viet's family has five people participating in the 5km distance, including grandfather, grandmother and grandchildren. The children including the bride and groom, a total of six people, ran the distances of 21km and 42km. There are two children who run both the Kun Marathon and the main prize.

"My family often swims in the sea and participates in some local running races together. If possible, we also go to neighboring provinces. Playing sports together as a family brings joy in life, helps We hope that this spirit will be shown at the MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang 2023, thereby inspiring other families," Viet shared.
