New Zealand coach Andries Jonker aims to win strongly against Vietnam in the last leg on August 1, to compete for the top of Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup.

This morning, the Netherlands drew 1-1 with the US at Wellington Stadium. Through two matches, coach Andries Jonker's army got four points, but ranked behind the US due to the poor goal difference (+1 vs +3). In the last round on August 1, the Netherlands faced Vietnam, and the US faced Portugal.

"Of course the Netherlands wants to win the group. The US won't easily win against Portugal, but we have to focus on solving our business. We will try to score as many goals as possible against Vietnam." Coach Jonker shared on NOS newspaper. "But of course, we don't underestimate Vietnam."

Vietnam is currently 32nd in FIFA, and this is the first time the team has won the right to attend the World Cup. Coach Mai Duc Chung's army was eliminated after two consecutive defeats against the US (0-3) and Portugal (0-2). Meanwhile, the Netherlands ranked ninth in FIFA and was the runner-up of the 2019 World Cup.

In the opening match, the Netherlands defeated Portugal 1-0. In the match against the US, the orange team opened the scoring in the 17th minute thanks to Jill Roord's cross-angle shot. However, they could not keep the win when they let Lindsey Horan head to equalize after 62 minutes. Missing the victory but what the Netherlands showed was more impressive in the previous World Cup, where they played completely under the muscle and lost to the US 0 0 -2 in the final.

"We are satisfied with the result this time. The Netherlands has moved closer to the level of the US," added coach Jonker. "In the first half we pushed the US into a difficult position. But in the second half they bounced back. The Netherlands had to take six corners in this half and one of them led to the equalizer."
