Dortmund overtakes Bayern again
In the match on the evening of March 3, Leipzig finished 13 times and controlled the ball 59%. Dortmund only had four shots, but was more effective. In the 21st minute, the host scored the first goal. After being fouled by goalkeeper Janis Blaswich in the box, Marco Reus himself stood up and opened the scoring with a penalty kick.
Dortmund continued their sharp attack for the rest of the first half. In the 39th minute, midfielder Emre Can volleyed the ground from 20 meters to raise the score to 2-0.
The game was somewhat reversed from the beginning of the second half. However, Leipzig had to wait until the 74th minute to have an equalizer from Emil Forsberg's close-range ball. Timo Werner came on for Nkunku from the 83rd minute. However, the former Chelsea striker missed the chance to equalize for Leipzig in the 90+4 minute. After Werner's close-range volley, the ball touched goalkeeper Meyer's hand, bounced on defender Schlotterbeck and then out.
The 2-1 win over Leipzig is enough for Dortmund to monopolize the number one position in the Bundesliga with 49 points. Bayern fell to second with 46 points. This is the second week in a row Dortmund has taken the lead in the early game. If you win at Stuttgart on the evening of March 4, Bayern will get back what was lost. The defending champions are at +43, more than double Dortmund's +18.
This is the first time in Dortmund's history that they have won 10 consecutive matches in all competitions since the beginning of a calendar year. During this period, they scored 25 goals, conceded eight times and had four clean sheets. Dortmund also re-established the record of winning eight consecutive matches in the Bundesliga set by themselves in the 2011-2012 season, also the last season the Ruhr club was crowned.
The victory over Leipzig is a good step for Dortmund for the second leg of the 1/8 round of the Champions League on March 7. In the first leg on February 15, the German team beat Chelsea 1-0 at home.
