Van Hau grew up from the youth training center of Hanoi T&T (now Hanoi FC). He was promoted to the first team in 2017 and became the youngest player of Hanoi FC to play in the V-League at 18 years, 2 months and 17 days. With the capital team, the 1.86-meter-tall left-back won three V-League championships, two National Cups and two National Super Cups.

Van Hau attended the U20 FIFA World Cup in 2017 at the age of 17. A year later, he started in the tactical scheme of coach Park Hang-seo, won the runner-up position of U23 Asia in Changzhou and won the 2018 AFF Cup. Van Hau's trophy collection was completed in 2019. when he scored a brace in the final, helping Vietnam beat Indonesia 3-0, winning the SEA Games gold medal.

Van Hau ended his youth training contract with Hanoi FC in April. However, according to VFF regulations, he then continued to play for the capital team for two years under the "dedication" clause, receiving a salary. nearly 50 million per month. But only eight months after entering this clause, Van Hau was facilitated by the capital team to liquidate his contract early to join the new team as desired.

After winning the National First Division 2022 and winning the right to play in the V-League 2023, Cong An Nhan Dan transferred and changed its name to Hanoi Police. Before Van Hau, this rookie recruited Phan Van Duc from SLNA with a two-year contract.

Huynh Tan Sinh is also "on his way" to join the Hanoi Police. This midfielder will compensate Quang Nam 500 million dong to liquidate the contract soon.
