Novak Djokovic will rest until mid-August to recuperate after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2023 Wimbledon final.

Djokovic announced on July 23 that he would not attend the Rogers Cup in Toronto on August 7. He is likely to return only to the Cincinnati Masters kicking off a week later. This is the last major event before the players attend the US Open on August 28.

"I've always wanted to go to Canada but after talking with the team, the decision was probably the right one," said Djokovic, a four-time Rogers Cup winner. The number two tennis player in the world thanked the organizers, fans and promised to return next year.

American tennis player Christopher Eubanks will replace Djokovic. Eubanks just had a great Wimbledon success when defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Cameron Norrie on the way to the quarterfinals.

With the exception of Djokovic, 41 of the top 42 players on the current ATP scoreboard all agree to participate. The withdrawal of the Serbian tennis player was expected. Nole has not attended the Rogers Cup since 2019, absent last year because of an entry ban.

Djokovic will have a month off before returning to the court, with a focus on conquering the US Open. This is the Grand Slam that the 36-year-old has not won since 2018. He reached the final in 2021 but lost to Daniil Medvedev after three sets. Djokovic lost six of his nine US Open finals.

Djokovic had a successful first half of the season, reaching the finals of all three Grand Slams, winning the Australian Open and Roland Garros. He missed the opportunity to equal Roger Federer's eight-time Wimbledon record and also no longer had the opportunity to repeat the Calendar Slam feat of the legendary Rod Laver this season.
