Djokovic sets record to win against ATP Tour
Before this match, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal both held the record of 18-0 ATP Tour head-to-head wins. While Djokovic did this against Gael Monfils, Nadal similarly dominated against Richard Gasquet.
Monfils has lost to Djokovic for 19 years, since their first match in the Challenger qualifiers in Italy in 2004. No player in history has had a record against an opponent as bad as Monfils. His compatriot Gasquet has the second worst record with 18 consecutive defeats to Nadal.
Monfils only played evenly against Djokovic in the first half of the first half of a third round match at the Cincinnati Masters yesterday, August 17, before repeatedly failing and losing quickly in the second half of the set. The French player tried hard in the second set but could not avoid a 2-6 defeat after more than half an hour of competition.
Djokovic won 17, lost one on hard courts from the beginning of the season. He is aiming for his third championship in Cincinnati. Nole's opponent in the quarterfinals is the hope of host Taylor Fritz. Fritz did not spend much in the third round when opponent Dusan Lajovic dropped out from the first set.
Fritz has not been in great form this season and has not won a single time in six matches against Djokovic. If he wins, Nole will reach the semi-finals against Alexander Zverev or Adrian Mannarino. Zverev has just had his first win against a top 10 opponent this year when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 after nearly three hours of play.
In the upper bracket, Carlos Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals after a successful revenge against Tommy Paul. The world number one has yet to show stability in this match, but still won the match after three sets in a match interrupted by rain. Alcaraz will play Max Purcell, who had to play in the qualifiers but eliminated Casper Ruud and Stan Wawrinka respectively.
