Djokovic: 'I want to win more Grand Slams'

Novak Djokovic insists defeat in the Wimbledon final does not reduce his desire to fight for the Grand Slams ahead.

"I will continue with the same determination, great desire and new goals," Djokovic told Serbian newspaper Sport Klub on July 19. "The US Open and Davis Cup are the most important to me for the rest of the year. I hope I stay healthy, active, ready, strong, to be able to fight for a Grand title. Another Slam".

After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Djokovic said he will rest and spend time with his family before starting to prepare for the US Open. Last year, Nole could not go to New York because he did not have a passport for the Covid-19 vaccine. Also for this reason, he missed six Masters 1000 tournaments in North America, spanning from 2022 to 2023.

From May this year, the US government lifted entry restrictions for people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19. Djokovic thus qualified to enter the US to play a series of tournaments in the August hard court season, including the Grand Slam in New York. The last time he competed at the US Open was the final in 2021, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev and missed the opportunity to win all four Grand Slams the same year.

"I'm looking forward to going back to New York," Nole added to Serbian reporters. "Throughout my career, I've played my best on hard courts, although grass has also become my favorite surface over the past few years. But overall, the events where I've had the most success have been the hard courts." .

Djokovic also recalls finals at the US Open, with a record of winning three and losing five. Most recently, he lost to Medvedev in 2021 but received a lot of love from the crowd, which Nole had before in New York. He said that image always stuck in his head, making him always want to return to the last Grand Slam of the year.

US Open kicks off August 28. The 23 Grand Slam owner will attend the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati ahead of the event in New York, but will not be at the ATP Rogers Cup in Toronto.
