Defensive Player of The Year has a new owner, naming the second youngest owner in NBA history
According to the results announced by the NBA via TNT this morning (April 18), the title of Defensive Player of the Year - Jaren Jackson Jr.
He is the second youngest player in NBA history to receive this award, as well as the second in the history of the Memphis Grizzlies Club to be honored in defense (before Marc Gasol).

Jaren Jackson Jr beat out two other serious contenders including Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks and Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Memphis Grizzlies' Bigman received 56 out of 100 first-place votes, for a total of 391 points. Brook Lopez got 31 votes for first place and scored 309 points. Mobley is third with 101 points.
This title helped Jackson Jr to be in the group of 4 players who owned "DPOY" at the age of 23. Besides him were Alvin Robertson, Kawhi Leonard and Dwight Howard.
Howard is the youngest player ever to receive the Defensive Player of the Year award, a few months less than Jaren Jackson Jr.

In terms of statistics, Jaren Jackson Jr leads the entire NBA in block (average 3 blocks per game) for the second consecutive season, the index is quite impressive.
Besides, he is the leader of the defense ranked third in the whole tournament, only letting the opponent score an average of 110.7 points/100 possession. Particularly during the time Jackson was on the field, the index dropped to 106.6 points/100 possessions.

“This award may be for me, but it is the result of the team's help. Our team values the defense and it has created the success of me and my teammates throughout the Regular Season," the 23-year-old bigman shared with TNT.
Owning the title of Defensive Player of The Year this year, Jaren Jackson Jr became the first person to hold the trophy named after the legendary Hakeem Olajuwon.
This is the product of rebuilding the image for all the individual titles that the NBA has made and announced in the first half of the season. Olajuwon was chosen to be named the 'Defensive Player of The Year' after he made it to the NBA All-Defense Team of the Year 9 times, along with 2 DPOY titles of his own.
