De Gea: 'Unlucky Casemiro'

Goalkeeper David De Gea thinks team-mate Casemiro was unlucky when he was sent off in Man Utd's 0-0 draw with Southampton in the Premier League on March 12.

"I think Casemiro was unlucky," De Gea told Sky Sports after the game. "He tries to touch the ball, but his foot is a bit high. I think the referees need to be more consistent. Sometimes they give red cards, but sometimes they don't."

In the 32nd minute against Southampton, Casemiro hit the ball under his shoe and continued to hit Carlos Alcaraz's leg. Initially, referee Anthony Taylor only showed a yellow card, but then changed his mind to give the Man Utd midfielder a red card directly after consulting VAR. Also in a similar situation with Joao Felix, Ricardo Pereira did not receive a penalty in Leicester's 1-3 loss to Chelsea on Saturday 11/3.

Casemiro became the first Man Utd player to receive two red cards in a season, after former midfielder Nemanja Vidic in the 2013-14 season. If Man Utd does not appeal, Casemiro will be banned for four consecutive matches against Fulham at home in the FA Cup and three Premier League matches including against Newcastle (away), Brentford (home) and Everton (home) ).

"It will be very difficult for Man Utd, because Casemiro is a big player," said De Gea. "We will miss him for the next four games, but Man Utd has a thick enough squad. We have other quality players. The whole team will continue to work hard."

Playing without people for most of the time, Man Utd drew the bottom team Southampton 0-0 in round 27. This match, Southampton finished 17 times. De Gea saved four of them. "Man Utd try to score, but it's very difficult to do it without people," De Gea said. "The opponent also had many opportunities, but Man Utd showed good fighting spirit. We have to accept a point and keep going."
