Dan Quyet: 'I run 30 tournaments every year because I like to conquer'
Dan Quyet - real name Dang Anh Quyet, is considered the leading movement runner in Vietnam. Quyet has regularly competed in most major marathons in the country for the past 3 years and is a competitive competitor for rankings with both team and movement athletes. It is rare for the podium of the marathons to be absent from the runner born in 1990.
Nam Dinh hometown runner, originally an electromechanical engineer, came to the marathon nearly 10 years ago just to have more health to pursue work. The more he sticks, the more he realizes that he has potential when his performance continuously improves, it doesn't take many years to reach the milestone of full marathon sub3 (3 hours). In 2017, Dan Quyet was a famous runner in the running village. However, he has not been able to break through because he still has to spend most of his time at work. In March 2020, Quyet quit his job as an engineer to pursue his marathon dream including training, competition and being a personal trainer.
This period is when the Decision is most explosive. He searched for training videos on his own and applied them to himself. Decide to gradually adjust these lesson plans to suit your condition. The 33-year-old runner's day begins at 4 a.m. with exercises that last until morning, then his time to train enthusiasts. "I chose to pursue running instead of engineering, so self-discipline is important. On a good day, I run a lot, when it rains, I switch to the machine. Accumulate and prepare in terms of technique, physical strength, Endurance makes me more confident when participating in the tournament," said Dan Quyet.
No longer working as an engineer, Dan Quyet's main income will come from training and competing at marathon events. Because of that, he is currently at the tournament with a high density. In 2022 alone, Quyet runs about 30 different events. Since the beginning of 2023, this runner has also participated in 14 events, an average of every two weeks. March is the time when he runs the most with three tournaments in Binh Duong, Bien Hoa and Lai Chau. Most of these, former electromechanical engineers are champions of the movement system. Highlights are the achievement of a full marathon of 2 hours 37 minutes 28 seconds at a tournament in Hanoi, early 2022 and PR 1 hour 14 minutes 6 seconds when running 21km in Binh Duong earlier this year.
Marathon fans have easily realized that in the past two years, Dan Quyet's full marathon performance has rarely dropped below 2 hours 50 minutes or half marathons under 1 hour 25 minutes. This is also the reason many "runners" call Dang Anh Quyet the number one movement runner today.
Explaining this stability, the 33-year-old runner said that the constant appearance at marathon tournaments gives him a sense of excitement. Each locality has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages when running. The term at MetaSports Marathon Nha Trang, the track is extremely cool, inspiring when stretching on the romantic beach but challenging athletes with continuous up and down slopes, requiring a change in running rhythm and cadence. MetaSports Marathon Hue is a speed race when the track is almost flat. With Quyet, to conquer different prizes, different tactics need to be adjusted. Understanding the characteristics of each tournament gives him a lot of inspiration and helps him improve his thinking, tactics, and techniques.
"I like the feeling of running and conquering the roads. I try to enjoy the most, laugh with the runners and the people cheering on both sides of the road. The relaxed mentality makes the steps more elegant and also a way to help I keep my form even though I compete a lot," shared the runner born in 1990.
Dan Quyet also believes that maintaining stability over the years lies in the strategy of choosing distances. Normally, he will choose to alternate 21km and then 42km so that his body is not overloaded. With tournaments only a week apart, Quyet had to arrange a more recovery schedule. He spent a day or two after the tournament recovering, running lightly to relax his muscles. He also spends time with friends to relax. Until Wednesday or Thursday, this runner only does speed exercises for about 30 minutes. If the time between the two prizes is longer, Quyet will practice exercises from 20km to 30km long.
Before turning to marathon, Dan Quyet also had a period of half a year struggling with plantar fasciitis, hamstring injuries, gravure pain, even traffic accidents. The time away from the track was when he realized the role of the right training and competition regime. To limit injury, he said warm up thoroughly, stretch muscles thoroughly after jogging. After heavy exercises, it is always necessary to take a light interval to recover. This runner also sleeps 8 hours a day. "Injury is a nightmare for any athlete. They need motivation so they need to push themselves to try harder, but all pressure should still be within the limits of the body's tolerance. Runner needs to listen to his body. ", he shared.
On August 13, Dan Quyet will participate in the second season of MetaSports Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang. Last year, he was the champion of the movement system with a time of 2 hours 46 minutes. To defend the championship, the runner born in 1990 trains with a volume of more than 100km per week. He believes that the goal of winning the MetaSports Marathon is challenging because the tournament is increasingly attracting quality runners.
Deciding to review competing at the MetaSports Marathon is always inspiring and full of exciting competition. The presence of the top runners at home and abroad to promote fighting spirit is also an opportunity to perfect the skill set. "Since the beginning of this year, African runners have breathed new life into the MetaSports Marathon. The competition is much fiercer, but for me it's a great opportunity to rub, exchange and learn for domestic runners," he said. .
After VM Nha Trang, Dan Quyet's schedule is still packed with dozens of big and small prizes from here to the end of the year. He will almost participate in all the remaining tournaments of VM including Ha Long (September 10), Hanoi (November 26) and Hai Phong (December 17). In particular, VM Hai Phong - a completely new tournament in the system, the most important for Dan Quyet. He aims to break his personal record of 2 hours 37 minutes in the tournament on December 17.
