Cong Phuong prepares to go to J-League 1
According to a source from MetaSports, Cong Phuong has signed a two-year contract with a Japanese team, most likely Yokohama FC. This is the second-placed team in the J-League 2 season 2022, thereby winning the right to play in the J-League 1 season 2023.
Cong Phuong is still in Vietnam. It is expected that he will go to Japan early next year to launch a new team. Yokohama FC is no stranger to Vietnamese fans when they borrowed midfielder Nguyen Tuan Anh from HAGL in 2016.
Cong Phuong was born in 1995 in Nghe An, attended the first grade of HAGL Arsenal JMG Academy. He and Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Luong Xuan Truong... went to HAGL's first team to kick the V-League 2015. The boss Doan Nguyen Duc once expected this generation to bring the V-League championship back to the mountain town, but failed. Their best achievement is the bronze medal of the National Cup 2022.
Cong Phuong used to play for U19, U22, U23 and the Vietnamese team. Under the guidance of coach Park Hang-seo, he won a silver medal at the 2018 Asian U23 Championship and the 2018 AFF Cup championship.
He is also the Vietnamese player with the most experience playing for foreign teams, having played for Mito Hollyhock (Japan), Incheon (South Korea) and Sint Truiden (Belgium) on loan.
Cong Phuong's contract with HAGL expired in early December. He asked for permission to elect Duc without extension and transferred to the Japanese team on a free basis.
