Coach Shin Tae-yong was disappointed with the referee when he lost to Vietnam
"Before the match, I said that there are many decisions of the referee that change the result in the tournament," coach Shin said at a press conference after the final on the evening of August 26. "This continues to be true in Indonesia's match against Vietnam today".
Coach Shin alluded to the situation where Vietnam defender Nguyen Hong Phuc elbowed Haykal Alhafiz on the head in the second half, but did not get a red card. Besides, Indonesia had some dangerous quick counter-attacks that were fouled, but the referee did not draw the card.
The camera captured the moment the Korean coach reacted violently to the Japanese referee. The look of Mr. Shin's mouth showed that he used harsh words in Korean after being warned by referee Kasahara.
Coach Shin highly appreciated the fighting spirit of Indonesia. He revealed to urge the players to try to finish the game in 90 minutes because of the limited substitution options. The team has only 15 players, not counting the three goalkeepers, so it is not possible to make a sixth substitution in extra time.
Indonesia lost two players at the beginning of the tournament, Titan Agung and Komang Teguh, banned by AFC for six months for fighting with Thai players in the 32nd SEA Games final. Indonesia thought they could still use them, but AFC's ban including the Southeast Asian U23 tournament. In the tournament, the team lost Irfan Jauhari and Bagas Kaffa to injuries.
"Vietnam has 23 players, so it has an advantage over us," said coach Shin. "Anyway, the Indonesian players put in a phenomenal effort for 120 minutes."

This defeat makes coach Shin Tae-yong still not have a championship with Indonesian football. He has experienced the AFF Cup 2021 and 2022, SEA Games 31 and the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
