Coach Conte threatened to quit Tottenham because fans booed
"I think we have to show respect in every moment to the fans who paid for the tickets. But if you ask me if I'm disappointed with what happened today, I have to say yes. yes, because it's important to be honest," Conte said after losing 1-2 to Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur.
At home, Tottenham started slowly, allowing striker Mohamed Salah to score twice for Liverpool. At this time, many of their fans expressed dissatisfaction, constantly booing the home team. After the break, Conte's team started, but only recovered one goal thanks to Harry Kane's 70th minute.
Conte thinks that after a year of working, Tottenham have improved a lot. That is reflected in the Top 3 in the English Premier League and in the 1/8 round of the Champions League. However, that doesn't mean Tottenham are ready to compete for titles.
Conte also emphasized that Tottenham are facing opponents with stronger squads, so he and the players have a long way to go to reach the goal. "People need to understand the need for time and patience, otherwise we could lose the passion and enthusiasm that fuel my fuel. If I have that, that's okay. But if not, we'll continue this season and see what happens at the end," Conte said, hinting at his threat to quit Tottenham.
Conte's contract with Tottenham is only valid until June 2023. The two sides have negotiated an extension, but have not reached an agreement. This is not the first time Conte has threatened to quit Tottenham. The former coach of Juventus, Chelsea, Inter and Italy has done the same thing when fans reacted in the defeats of Man Utd 0-2 and Newcastle 1-2.
Conte has coached Tottenham since November 2021. He brought the team to the Top 4 of the Premier League 2021-2022 and to the Top 3 this season. In the Champions League 2022-2023, Tottenham leads Group D. Having lost three of the last four Premier League matches, they are still fourth with 26 points, three more points and one match than Man Utd.
