Chelsea lost close to Dortmund in the Champions League
This is Dortmund's eighth consecutive victory in all competitions, stretching back to the beginning of 2023. In contrast, Chelsea experienced the fourth consecutive game without a win. In the new year, the London team won only one of nine games. The defeat in Germany continues to add to the pressure on Potter, who was recently suspected by the media of not having the personality to lead Chelsea.
Dortmund had to confront the rival's expensive stars, when Potter ranked two rookies worth over $100 million Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez as the main kickers. Joao Felix kicks behind Kai Havertz, creating a fast attack and tends to move wide. The home team also has stars like Adeyemi or Jude Bellingham. But if comparing the squad value, Dortmund has no door.
In fact, Chelsea played dominantly thanks to the outstanding quality of players. At the same proportion of possession, the visitors launched 13 shots compared to the opponent's seven, including eight on target and Dortmund only had two. At a pivotal moment, however, Dortmund benefited from Adeyemi's moment of brilliance with a solo strike early in the second half. That's enough to gain an advantage in a pair of Champions League knockout matches.
