Twice leading, but conceding in the 89th minute, Chelsea drew with Everton 2-2 at home in the 28th round of the Premier League, on the evening of March 18.

Substitute striker Ellis Simms became Everton's hero with a brave dribble, eliminating Kalidou Koulibaly before cutting into the far corner, leaving Kepa Arrizabalaga unstoppable despite touching the ball. It was Simms' first goal in the Premier League and his effort brought a key point for Everton in the relegation race.

In contrast, Chelsea's three-match winning streak was stopped even though the performance of teachers and students Graham Potter was not so bad. They controlled the ball 69%, launching nine shots compared to five of their opponents. The class of Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix, combined with the ingenuity of Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic, help Chelsea to have a variety of balls. But again, Potter's side felt like they lacked a true striker to create chances in a dominant game.

Everton entered the game with a deep defense, covered by a trio of energetic midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Amadou Onana. This makes it difficult for Chelsea to approach goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's goal. 20 minutes, the home team just hit the target for the first time, but Havertz's kick from a distance did not make Pickford difficult.

Felix's positional ability is shown when he constantly finds space to receive the ball in the penalty area. But the cross in the 24th minute went all the way to the edge, and the shot sank not long after that went to Pickford's chosen position. By the end of the first half, Chelsea were still on the ball based on individual effort when Reece James broke through in the penalty area but the shot was saved by James Tarkowski.
