Brazil's most direct attack in the 2022 World Cup
According to Statistical Spy, the army under Tite passed 2,140 passes and finished 68 shots through three rounds of the group stage with a 4-1 victory over Korea in the 1/8 round. On average, Brazil scored 31.5 passes per shot.
Behind Brazil in this statistic are defending champions France with 2164 passes and 64 shots, averaging 33.8 passes per shot. Portugal are third with an average of 38.8 passes, having passed 1978 and shooting 51 times across four games.
The Netherlands is the "most cumbersome" of the eight remaining teams at the 2022 World Cup. They need 55.5 passes for each shot. The opening situation of the 3-1 victory over the US in the round of 16 is an illustration of this "chaotic" when they need 20 passes - a World Cup record since 1966 - before Memphis Depay kick the opponent's net.
Louis van Gaal's team is also the team with the fewest passes and shots in the quarterfinals, with 1941 passes and 35 shots, just ahead of Morocco with 1130 and 29, respectively.
Brazil is the most successful of the quarter-finalists, with 68 shots across four games, averaging 17 shots per game. Following are France (65 shots), Argentina (57), Portugal (52), England (45), Croatia (43) and the Netherlands (35). Morocco is at the bottom of this statistic, with 30 shots across four games, averaging 7.5 shots. Ranked 34th in FIFA, Morocco is the lowest ranked team in the quarterfinals, and has reached the round of eight strongest teams at a World Cup for the first time.
However, Brazil was the worst performer, averaging 9.7 shots to score a goal. In contrast, England were the most efficient team, scoring one goal through 3.8 shots. Following are Portugal (4.3), Netherlands (4.4), France (7.2), Morocco (7.5), Argentina (8.1) and Croatia (8.6).
The positive sign is that Brazil has significantly improved performance in the 4-1 win over Korea in the round of 16, with an average of 4.3 shots yielding a goal. With a 6-1 win over Switzerland, Portugal were the most efficient team with an average of 2.2 shots per goal. Of the eight teams that reached the quarter-finals, only Morocco failed to score in the round of 16. In the match against Spain, the African representative finished 6 times with two shots on target, then won 3-0 in the penalty shootout.
Morocco are also the team with the least average possession per game with 37.3%, and the most tackles per game on average with 19.8 - equal to Brazil. Meanwhile, England have the most possession per game with 62.5% and tackle 13 times per game, just ahead of Argentina with 12 tackles.
Morocco is also the team that owns the most solid defense when only conceding once. The army under Walid Regragui in turn drew Croatia 0-0, won Belgium 2-0, Canada 2-1 in the group stage, and then defeated Spain on penalties in the 1/8 round. Brazil, England, Croatia and the Netherlands all conceded two goals, while Portugal owns the worst defense with five goals.
