Spain of the Camp Nou team sells an additional 15% of La Liga television rights to Sixth Street Investment Fund in exchange for $ 400 million.

Sixth Street will pay $ 315 million immediately and pay 85 million USD deferred to Barca. In return, this fund will have 15% of La Liga television rights of the Camp Nou owner within 25 years. Earlier, Sixth Street bought 10% of television rights for the same time limit at $ 277 million.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the activation of two economic levers explains why Barca has strongly handed in the transfer market. In July, Barca spent $ 58 million to buy Rapinha from Leeds and $ 45 million to buy Robert Lewandowski from Bayern. President Joan Laporta also signed a contract with Franck Kessie from AC Milan and Andreas Christensen from Chelsea on a free transfer.

Barca is even targeting three other goals: defender Jules Kounte, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea pay twice, but Kounte still considered the proposal from Barca. Meanwhile, the purchase of Alonso and Azpilicueta from Chelsea will likely come true after the La Liga runner -up activated the second economic lever. The price for the Spanish "old" duo is only about 10 million to 20 million USD.

In addition to the two initial economic levers, Barca also chose to sell 49.9% of Barca Studios. Earlier, on June 16, the Barca Members' Council passed these levers.

Barca was forced to sell assets due to limited revenue in Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the Camp Nou team also has to bear the debt of 1.3 billion USD left from the time of former chairman Josep Bartomeu. In 2021, Barca had to liberate Lionel Messi and lend Antoine Griezmann. Most of the players who stay must also reduce their salaries, accept their salaries slowly and give the club some other fees.

Barca is having to balance the salary fund to be eligible to register in La Liga. This is why the club accepts the sale of Frenchie de Jong, one of the highest paid players, for Man Utd. According to the British press, the two clubs have reached an agreement of 85 million. However, De Jong did not want to leave because "did not like Man Utd". If selling Barca Studios' shares, keeping the Dutch midfielder will no longer be a problem for the club.

The purchase of 25% of Barca's La Liga television rights in 25 years is not the only deal recently in Spain of Sixth Street. This investment fund also poured 360 million to buy 30% of the right to operate the new Bernabeu of Real Madrid for 20 years.

In Covid-19 pandemic, La Liga Organizing Committee has arranged for clubs to sell television copyrights for another investment fund, CVC. However, Real and Barca retreated when this agreement was not beneficial.
