Barca became the club with the most players at the World Cup after Alejandro Balde was called up to replace Jose Gaya in the Portugal national team.

Bayern was originally the team that contributed the most players at the 2022 World Cup, with 17 people the most. But Sadio Mane's injury reduced this number to 16. Meanwhile, thanks to the presence of Balde, Barca rose to the top with 17 names in the list of teams.

Balde was chosen by Luis Enrique to replace Gaya - Valencia left-back did not recover from injury in time. Previously, Barca, Bayern and Man City together had 16 players attending the World Cup. This is the first time in history that a club has contributed 17 players to the World Cup.

In the list of Barca players for the World Cup, there are 8 Spanish players including: Eric Garcia, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Pedri, Gavi, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati and Balde. This number is less than the record of nine Barca players who played for Spain in the 1994 World Cup.

Non-Spanish players who play for Barca include: Jules Kounde, Ousmane Dembele (France), Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong (Netherlands), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Germany), Andreas Christensen (Denmark), Ronald Araujo (Uruguay), Raphinha (Brazil) and Robert Lewandowski (Poland).

If counting clubs outside of Europe, Al Sadd of Qatar has the most players in the World Cup with 15 people, most of them are members of the home team.

At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Bayern contributed the most players with 16. Four years ago, it was Man City's turn with similar numbers. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Barca had 13 players, participating in all groups. This year, Real contributed 13 players, less than their record of 15 members attending the tournament four years ago.
