The 19th Asian Games will take place in September 2023, a year after being postponed for Covid-19.

According to the Asian Olympic Committee (OCA), the new schedule is the result from many meetings with the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of Hangzhou ASIAD and related parties, with the criteria of the Congress must not coincide with the calendar with Other international sporting events.

ASIAD 19 should have taken place from September 10 to September 25, 2022 in Hangzhou. But because China could not control Covid-19, the Congress was delayed indefinitely in early May. Also postponed, there are two other sports events: international student sports festivals and young Asian Games.

Sometimes, ASIAD 19 is at risk of being canceled when the organizers cannot find the appropriate new schedule. The reason is that Hangzhou also hosts many other international sports events, after the city completed the construction of 56 locations to serve Asian Games and Asian Para Games. OCA's executive committee, therefore, must set up a special force to work with the parties involved, find the way out.

China is trying to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19 in many provinces. The government is determined to pursue the "Zero Covid" policy, instead of living with translation as many other countries. Hangzhou is indicated by the largest city from this city - Shanghai - 175 kilometers, so the ASIAD organizers do not want to take risks, even though they have confidently announced they will learn the model of the Olympic Games in February in February. /2022.

Hangzhou is the third city of China hosting Asian Games, after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
