Argentina's Nicolas Otamendi gestured with his hands as if mocking the collapsed Netherlands after their penalty shootout defeat in the quarter-finals.

After striker Lautaro Martinez successfully made the last shot on the penalty shootout, setting the victory for Argentina in the quarter-final against the Netherlands on December 9 (the morning of December 10, Hanoi time), the Argentina players ran towards Martinez to celebrate, while the Dutch player collapsed on the field.

While his teammates were celebrating, Argentina's Nicolas Otamendi put his hands near his ears and pointed towards the Dutch players, making a gesture like mocking.

Former England striker Chris Sutton criticized Otamendi for this action. "It's childish. What is he thinking," Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Isn't this shameful? Football is about respecting opponents, referees and fans. Argentina team shows they don't have that spirit," one account commented on Twitter.

Otamendi has not yet commented on his action.

During the match, the two teams' players fouled each other many times, even getting angry, causing the referee to draw 17 yellow cards, the most yellow cards in a match in World Cups.

The victory over the Netherlands made Argentina the second team to enter the semi-finals, after Croatia. The two teams will meet in the semi-finals on December 13.
