Alcaraz: 'There was no new era when there was Djokovic, Nadal'
Alcaraz at the age of 20 won two Grand Slams, better than Djokovic and Federer at the same age and on par with Nadal. But the 20-year-old tennis player does not think that he is opening a new era to replace the seniors.
"I don't think there is a new age when Djokovic and Nadal are still playing," Alcaraz said. "I won for myself, for the team, not to start a new era. Maybe it's only worth discussing in a few years, when Nadal and Djokovic retire."
Alcaraz also thinks that it is a privilege to be evaluated with the convergence of the three seniors in the "Big 3". "The fact that Djokovic said he's never played against anyone like me is a compliment that gives me more motivation to improve myself," Alcaraz added.
According to Alcaraz, Djokovic is still the biggest comeback of any player in the Grand Slam. The Serbian senior has reached all three recent major finals and won twice. Before Alcaraz, no one had beaten Djokovic on Wimbledon grass for half a decade.
Alcaraz got off to a more impressive start than Federer and Djokovic early in their careers. At the same age as Alcaraz, Federer is empty-handed in both Masters 1000 and Grand Slam, Djokovic has only one Masters 1000 title. Alcaraz currently has 12 championships and holds the number one world number.
"I'm ready both physically and mentally to play epic battles with legends like the last Wimbledon final," Alcaraz said confidently. England will have a long break, before preparing for the North American hard court season, with a focus on defending the US Open title.
