Alcaraz overtakes Djokovic in the number of wins this season
This is the eighth time Alcaraz has created a white set. He beat Lajovic all four times. The Serbian player had previously been in high form, defeating Andy Murray and 30th seed Maxime Cressy, respectively.
Alcaraz maintains a high form with a strong attack, combining small missed situations. He scored 25 winner points this match, triple Lajovic's figure. Alcaraz missed three match-points, before ending the match after 91 minutes.
"I feel myself moving well on fast courts," Alcaraz replied when asked about his increasing form on hard courts. "I'm pleased with the many shots I've made on this surface. I'm enjoying my favorite tennis."
Alcaraz surpassed Novak Djokovic in the number of wins since the beginning of the season. Neither of them competed in many tournaments but were only four behind the others in the number of wins. Daniil Medvedev leads with 25, Cameron Norrie with 21, Taylor Fritz with 19, and Jannik Sinner with 17.
Norrie stopped early at the Miami Open when she lost to French tennis player Gregoire Barrere in the second round. Fritz could face Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, if they beat Holger Rune and Tommy Paul in the fourth round respectively.
Fourth seed Medvedev didn't have to play in the third round, thanks to Alex Molcan's withdrawal. Medvedev could take on Mackenzie McDonald, who knocked out Matteo Berrettini in the second round.
