Alcaraz lost the first set at the US Open
After three hours and 10 minutes of play, Alcaraz needed many unbelievable shots to eliminate the 26th seed. One of them came when the Spaniard took advantage of a break point in set four. Evans went to the net and continuously pressured Alcaraz, but his excellent movement and strength helped the world number one counterattack and score a winner.
By taking advantage of the opportunity to win the only ball game in the set, Alcaraz broke the spirit of his UK opponent and won 6-3 in set four. Before that, Evans caused many difficulties for Alcaraz since the beginning of the second set.
The world number 28 serves and hits his forehand well, and has a nasty left slice. Evans won the first ball game twice, but only won one set. In set two, he led 2-0 but then lost four games in a row and lost 3-6. In the third set, the UK player won the only game to catch the ball to win 6-4.
Alcaraz, with 61 winners to his opponent's 28, dominated most of the match. He had eight break-points in the first set, taking advantage of two of them to win 6-1. Despite struggling in the following three sets, Alcaraz continued after three hours and 10 minutes.
"He's a tough opponent, has a great cut and always wants to get in the net," Alcaraz said of Evans after the game. "We played a lot of good points, with a lot of different situations compared to other games."
In the next round, Alcaraz will meet 22-year-old phenomenon Matteo Arnaldi - who eliminated Cameron Norrie after only three sets with the scores 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. The Italian tennis player only participated in the Grand Slam for the first time three months ago, at Roland Garros.
Going along after four sets like Alcaraz also has Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev. Sinner defeated the old general Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 while Rublev defeated Arthur Rinderknech 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 7-5.
