Alcaraz: 'I still need a lot of improvement'

Canada Before the opening match at the ATP 1000 Rogers Cup, the world number one Carlos Alcaraz said that he still needs to try to perfect his play.

"I don't focus on any particular aspect but want to improve things," Alcaraz said at a press conference at the Rogers Cup - this week's Masters 1000 tournament. "You can always be better. In every training session, every set, every game, I always try to change the things that are not good. Since then, I have gradually grown."

Alcaraz is considered the strongest tennis player in the world right now. At the age of 20, he already had two Grand Slams. The Spaniard has only played on the ATP Tour for three years but has already bagged 12 titles - the 84th most in history. Last month, Alcaraz's victory at Wimbledon blocked Djokovic's streak of four consecutive championships on the London grass, as well as the senior's 24 Grand Slam milestone.

"I keep the Wimbledon cup in my living room and always see it when I have dinner with my family," Alcaraz said of the historic title. "I never want to forget that victory. Winning Wimbledon at the age of 20 is like a dream."

Alcaraz admits it takes more time to think about the historic victory, right in the fourth grass tournament of his career. "I know things come too quickly," the 20-year-old added. "I'm too young. I work hard to fight for great things. You never realize it, until you make it."

A year ago, Alcaraz competed in the Masters 1000 in Canada for the first time. He lost his first match against Tommy Paul in three sets. This year, the Spaniard does not want to repeat the same result at the tournament in Toronto. "After a year, I've learned to deal with pressure better," he said. "I've played on the big courts, in the important rounds. I've changed a lot."

Alcaraz receives great interest from Canadian and global audiences. During training with Daniil Medvedev, many fans stood outside the field and chanted Alcaraz's name. The tournament's biggest champion candidate is exempt from the first round and will meet either Ben Shelton or Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the second round.
