Alcaraz gets 10 points for humility
"For me Alcaraz scores 10/10. He's kind, funny," Spanish tennis player Roberto Carballes Baena told Spanish media. "Alcaraz wishes you luck whenever you play. It's unbelievable that he maintains that even though he has reached such a high level, won a Grand Slam. He is exactly the same when I met a few years ago."
Alcaraz has just attracted attention with the act of throwing a racket in the loss to Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup. He said he is still trying to improve himself, first as a man.
"After all, you only spend a few hours on the court a day. The rest of your life is off the field," Alcaraz said in an interview with the ATP Tour. "Becoming a good person is more important than anything. I want to be a person of good value after I finish my career."
Compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut believes Alcaraz will go far if he remains humble. He said: "Coach Ferrero is doing a good job as a teacher and a father. They have the same personality and will go far together."
Argentinian tennis player Facundo Bagnis also admires Alcaraz's friendliness. "I once asked Alcaraz to record a birthday video for a friend and he responded very politely," Bagnis said. "In the current position, Alcaraz can ignore my offer but he even asked when is the best time for us to do it."
Spain Davis Cup team coach David Ferrer on August 14 selected Alcaraz in the squad for the final round in Valencia next month. Also representing Spain are Bautista Agut, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Marcel Granollers. Spain will play the Czech Republic, Serbia and South Korea from September 13-17.
