AFF Cup 2022 to remove away goals rule

The 2022 Southeast Asian Championship (AFF Cup 2022) will officially kick off on December 20 with the participation of 10 regional teams including: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei.

In this year's tournament, the Vietnamese team under the guidance of coach Park Hang Seo will be in Group B including Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore. The goal of the Golden Dragon Warriors is to return to the throne of Southeast Asia.

According to the regulations of the AFF Cup 2022, in the group stage, each team will play 2 home matches and 2 away matches. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final for the championship. The two losing teams in the semi-finals were tied for third place.

The semi-finals and finals will take place in the first leg and second leg format at home - the opponent's field. The away goals rule will not be applied to determine the winner if there is a draw after the first and second legs.

Previously, this regulation was also applied at the AFF Cup 2020 when the tournament took place in Singapore. This not only creates fairness, but also helps the semi-finals and finals to be more exciting and attractive. According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will have a trip to the field of Laos on December 21, after that, Coach Park Hang Seo's army will welcome the most rated opponent in Group B, Malaysia in the US. House on December 27.

The last two matches of the Vietnamese team in the group stage are the trip to Singapore on December 30 and the welcome to Myanmar on January 3, 2023.

Before that, the Vietnamese team will have a final friendly match with the Philippines on December 14 for Mr. Park to have a specific assessment of the personnel as well as the performance of the students.
