Adama Traore engulfed Tottenham
This defeat is a blow to Tottenham's ambition to reach the top four. After Newcastle lost 0-2 to Man City in the early match of round 26, the North London team could not take the opportunity to widen the gap with the opponent. Tottenham are still four points ahead of Newcastle, but have played two more games.
The loss made matters worse for Tottenham, as it came just three days after they were knocked out by lower division Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Antonio Conte will return to work tomorrow after more than a month of absence to undergo gallbladder surgery and the news of the failure is certainly not what he wants to hear from his assistant Cristian Stellini. This is also a step back for Tottenham's preparation before the match against Milan in the second leg of the 1/8 Champions League round in the middle of next week.
Tottenham started the game with determination and soon threatened the opponent with the finishing phase of Pedro Porro or Son Heung-min. However, those were all shots that didn't hit the target. When Dejan Kulusevski cut his heart to the left corner of the Wolves goal, it was Jose Sa's talent to prevent the visitors from opening the scoring.
Wolves suffered when striker Diego Costa was injured and was reluctant to leave the field in the middle of the first half. However, in a defensive game, the home team benefited from the grace of the opponent's strikers. After Ivan Perisic's header missed the post, Son shot into the air despite dribbling past the keeper and two Wolves defenders.
