5 Vietnamese track and field athletes do not escape doping convictions

In early October, the Vietnamese sports delegation received a notice that five athletes attending the 31st SEA Games had test results for sample A positive for doping. These athletes then applied for a sample B test, hoping to get a negative result to escape disciplinary punishment.

However, in the test results of the new B sample sent by a laboratory in Thailand today, all 5 athletes are still positive. They were therefore determined to be in violation at the 31st SEA Games at home.

Five doping athletes won medals at the 31st SEA Games, in which four female athletes won gold and one male athlete won bronze. With the conclusion of the violation, they not only were stripped of their medals, but also faced a long-term ban.

In the previous report sent to the General Department of Sports and Sports, 5 athletes all confirmed that they did not intentionally use banned substances. They think it is possible to accidentally get doping when taking drugs or food.

SEA Games 31 took place from May 12 to May 23 with more than 10,000 athletes, officials, referees... from 11 countries in Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese sports delegation attended with 1,341 members, including 956 athletes, won 205 gold medals, 125 silver medals, 116 bronze medals and ranked first in the whole delegation.

During the competition, the 31st SEA Games organizers conducted a random doping test with nearly 1,000 athletes.

Before this latest incident, Vietnam's sports history has recorded 19 cases of doping since the 2003 SEA Games. Among them are some typical cases such as Olympic runner-up Hoang Anh Tuan or "Princess" Gymnast. Ms. Do Thi Ngan Thuong... Most of these cases confirmed that they lacked the minimum knowledge and skills to prevent doping.
