2023 Women's National Cup waiting for a new champion
In the previous four tournaments, Phong Phu Ha Nam won the 2019 championship, and Ho Chi Minh City I won the next three seasons. Meanwhile, Hanoi I three times finished second in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The runner-up in 2020 belongs to TKSVN.
But at this year's tournament, a surprise soon happened when the defending champion Ho Chi Minh City was eliminated from the group stage. In the semi-final series that took place this afternoon of February 24, it was Phong Phu Ha Nam's turn to stop after losing 0-1 to TKSVN at the VFF Youth Football Training Center, My Dinh, Hanoi. In the other semi-final at PVF Football Center, Hung Yen, Hanoi I defeated Thai Nguyen 4-3 in the penalty shootout, after drawing 0-0 in the two main periods.
The final match between Hanoi I and TKSVN taking place at PVF on March 1 will determine a completely new champion for the Women's National Cup. Before that, also on the PVF field on February 28, Phong Phu Ha Nam and Thai Nguyen will compete for the third prize. Ho Chi Minh City must play a round to determine positions 5-6-7 with Son La and Hanoi II.
Hanoi 1 is very determined to enter the semi-final against Thai Nguyen this afternoon. But the representative of the Capital could not score in the two main periods and had to go to the penalty kick. In the first round, Vietnam striker Pham Hai Yen failed to beat goalkeeper Le Trinh Khanh Linh, giving Thai Nguyen a 1-0 lead.
However, in the remaining four shots, the Hanoi I players all finished successfully, while Thai Nguyen kicked two missed. In the second round, Luong Thi Xuyen could not defeat goalkeeper Kieu Oanh, and Le Thi Thuy Trang hit the bar in the next turn. Hanoi I thus won the final 4-3, making it to the final for the fourth time.
In the semi-final at the same time, TKSVN and Phong Phu Ha Nam struggled, creating few dangerous opportunities, but the game reversed from an error in the 55th minute. After a light shot, goalkeeper Hai Yen fell but could not catch the ball and Ha Thi Nhai hit the back stone, scoring to help TKSVN win 1-0.
